SWMU 39 – Building 3158/Former Battery Drain Area

This unit consisted of a small building with an attached, open-sided, roofed pad where, according to the 1988 VSI, discarded batteries were opened and their fluids drained into a tank. The tank had a curbed, concrete pad under it, which was cracked and stained. The 1993 follow up inspection found that this building was no longer used for draining and storing discarded batteries, and now contained assorted small cans of miscellaneous hydraulic fluids. In addition, the roofed pad was gone. No evidence of releases was observed during the 1993 follow up inspection. However, the open-air, battery drain tank’s curb was cracked and stained. A first phase RFI was required in the permit for surface soils surrounding the building.
