SWMU 25 – DRMO Storage Yard

SWMU 25 is an open area within the DRMO storage yard that was used to store ignitable hazardous wastes. During the 1988 VSI, oil staining was observed; during the 1993 follow-up inspection no staining was seen. In the RCRA permit, the EPA requested confirmatory soil sampling because of the stains observed in 1988.

Status

• RFI work plans were approved in 1995.
• Confirmatory soil sampling was performed, in accordance with the approved RFI work plans, during investigations of OU 1 SWMUs. Low levels of various organic and inorganic constituents were found which prompted the EPA to request additional sampling.
• Since SWMU 25 was associated with the regulated unit (the DRMO has the RCRA Part B permit to operate a hazardous waste storage facility) additional work could be addressed as part of the regulated unit closure activities.
• The RCRA 7003 Order on Consent recommends a Determination of Corrective Action Without Controls for the DRMO Storage Yard.
